Info: There have probably been buildings on this site since Roman times. A Danish chief - Hoestan - is recorded fortifying the building after landing on Sheppey and taking Minster Abbey. It was visited by Henry V111 and Anne Boleyn on their honeymoon in October 1532. More recently it has fallen into disuse but - thanks to a substantial grant from English Heritage in 2006 - this fine tudor mansion is being given a new lease of life.
